Social media site Facebook unveiled on Thursday a new screen sharing feature that is available globally on the newest versions of Messenger’s Android and iOS devices, mobile apps and the Internet. With its new feature for screen sharing, users can share with friends and relatives on Messenger’s mobile and desktop screen activities.
“Today, we’re excited to share that we’re expanding the availability of Messenger’s screen sharing feature in video calls and Messenger Rooms to our mobile apps. We know people are trying to stay connected more than ever and screen sharing is the latest feature we’re rolling out to bring people closer together,” The new feature was announced by Nora Micheva, Product Manager, Messenger in a blog post.
Screen Sharing enables individually or in a group video call of up to 8 people and 16 people to share their screen of their friends and family while using the Messenger on their mobile devices, on the Web or on their desktop.
Users can share a live view of their display from whatever they access or view remotely with others on their screens via the new screen sharing feature.
“Whether you want to share memories from your camera roll, shop together online, co-browse social media, and more — screen sharing makes it easy to stay connected and close with your loved ones, even when you’re physically apart,” Micheva said.
Although screen sharing is available in Messenger Rooms for up to 16 users , Facebook notes that it works towards expansion of the feature into Messenger Rooms for as many as 50 people.
“With these new controls, Room creators will be able to determine whether to limit the ability to screen share to just themselves or make the feature available to all participants when creating a room and during the call. We hope people will find screen sharing a fun and engaging way to connect and share with family and friends on video calls and in Messenger Rooms,” Micheva added.
How to Use Your Phone With Facebook Messenger Screen Sharing
To get this new screen sharing feature, you need to update to the latest versions of Messenger’s Android and iOS apps, desktop app, and Web.
- Open the Messenger app and start a video call.
- After this, pull up the bottom tab on your screen.
- Select ‘Share Your Screen.’
- Your phone’s screen will now be visible to participants in your video call.
The other people would be able to see something on your telephone screen in the video chat from that moment. You will be able to see your friends on camera when you show them your phone at the upper right-hand corner of the video chat screen.
